Welcome to the great world of the Tarot. This week you will learn about the first (or, depending on the books you read, the last) card of the Major Arcana. I, personally, think of it as the beginning because in many studies The Fool represents the Life Force going through the different stages of our life represented by all the other cards from the Major Arcana.

When The Fool appears in your spread it can represent “you” (the person having their Tarot read, the person asking the questions) or someone close to you. This also goes for any of the other cards that appear in your spread.

Look closely at the card and try to note all the details. We see that it is a young person, standing on a ledge and he might step right off if he doesn’t pay close attention. This shows a sign of inexperience, naivety, innocence; an individual at the beginning of his journey.

I will not bore you with all the details included in the picture because I feel they are all open to interpretation and can mean something different for everyone. But I will focus on the general meaning of the card. And I will try to keep it simple. If you wish to know more, I will post some links on this page and I might suggest a few books for anyone that wishes to go into more depth.

Back to The Fool; Depending on the surrounding cards and the position in which this card shows up it could symbolize an act of faith, willingness joined with a warning to caution or (especially if it appears upside down), it could represent foolhardiness or a tendency to rush into things thoughtlessly.

As we said The Fool is only starting his journey therefore he is not really looking at his current situation, he is much more interested by what is ahead. Depending on whether or not he has taken stock of his surroundings, this could be a good thing or a foolish thing. If he did take the time to get to know what is around him then he is free to enjoy the scenery but if he didn’t then trouble may lie ahead.

    Get to Know Your Tarot

The magical and mysterious world of the Tarot has been around to guide us for hundreds of years. It is actually unknown exactly when the Tarot appeared or where it originated. There is much controversy about its birth but one thing is for such it was not invented by the poor. The first Tarot cards recorded were painted on parchment, or thin sheets of ivory, silver or even gold.

In this section I will help you get acquainted with the meaning of each Tarot card. Every Friday, I will present a new card starting with the Major Arcana. There are a total of 78 cards in the Tarot, though 22 in the MA, which is believed to be symbolic of the human experience.
