About MeSometimes it takes a while to discover our true calling. It was the case for me. Despite my love of books, I never believed I would be able to write a novel myself. That is until D.N.A. would not let my mind rest.
For six month this story was growing in my mind and would not rest. So, I started writing D.N.A. in the fall of 2003. At the time, I was also a self-employed sales agent and traveled throughout the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, which meant I had very little spare time to write. Finally, in October of 2008 I had a printed copy of my novel. It was one of the most exciting days of my life. I look forward to having many more novels published. So far, it looks like my next novel is following the same road the first one did (the five year span). Many interruptions have delayed the completion of my sequel but I do hope to complete it before the end of this year. For many artists their talent is apparent early in their lives. It wasn’t so clear for me. Only when I started writing did I see all the clues but having been raised in a middle class family, nobody thought of writing as a profession, especially not for a girl. A girl was to become a secretary (which I was for eight years), or a nurse, or a hairdresser. But when I look back, I always had a story going on inside my head. During the long bus rides to and from school, the same stories would come wandering back into my head but with more details each time. I never thought much of it at the time. I never thought I would ever be sharing these stories with the world. The same thing would happen every night when I went to bed and any other time my mind had a chance to wander. My mind never went blank and still to this day I can never empty my mind, there is always something going on in there. I wrote my first book in grade school for my parents’ anniversary. It’s still around in a box somewhere. Then in grade six my best friend and I (we were the only kids in the class that spoke English) wrote stories and plays for the English lessons in our class. Every Friday, we presented our creation to our classmates. After high school, life took over and it wasn’t until my late twenties that I started to consider writing. At the time, I thought I would be writing children’s books but when D.N.A. made its way into my life, that’s when I realized I preferred to write for an adult audience. |
